Enjoy the coast without depending on services, sunshine or quiet that you have only assumed will be there.
Start with the essentials
A weekend outside the period you think of as summer can have an appealing pace, but a season alone guarantees neither quiet nor good weather. Identify the two things that would make the stay worthwhile: exploring a village, looking at the sea, eating out or enjoying your accommodation. Check that they are realistic for your dates.
Liguria brings coast and hills close together, which makes distances and access worth reading carefully. A walk along an urban waterfront and a path high above the sea are not interchangeable. Choose your initial programme according to terrain and conditions, rather than relying only on a photograph of the view.
Ask what being open includes
An open property does not mean all its facilities operate on the same timetable. If a pool, terrace, restaurant or breakfast service matters, confirm each separately. Look at nearby options too. A place may be enjoyable to visit while requiring more planning for dinner or buying everyday supplies.
Keep fixed commitments to a minimum. Book the experience you particularly want, then retain a nearby alternative for everything else. When a day invites you outdoors, you can take advantage of it. If you would rather stay sheltered, you will not have to abandon a chain of prepaid activities or lengthy transfers.
Work with the available daylight
Check sunset for your dates and put activities requiring natural light earlier in the day. Save a meal, reading or an urban stroll suited to the lighting and conditions for later. Low evening light is not a reason to remain on an unfamiliar path when you should be heading back.
Pack layers you can combine easily and rain protection appropriate to your journeys. The aim is not to prepare for every imaginable scenario, but to change plans without immediately needing to buy missing equipment. Adjusting your decision as conditions change is part of a thoughtfully organised weekend, rather than evidence of failure.
Choose a base with confirmed services and a few essential activities. Let the weather influence their order rather than determine whether the trip succeeds.
