Pack lightly for a thermal spa weekend

Keep dry clothes separate, check what can be hired and make the things you actually need easy to reach.

Start with your booking

Before laying everything on the bed, read the facility’s information again. A robe, towel and slippers may be included, available to hire or something you must bring. A room in the same building does not necessarily include full spa access. Write down what you need to carry and what will be provided; this simple check saves more weight than clever folding techniques.

If an important detail is unclear, ask a specific question. Is a towel included with the admission you booked? Does the locker need a coin? Is there somewhere to change after checking out? The answers help you pack for the day you will actually have.

Make three separate groups

Divide your belongings into things for the water, dry clothes and small essentials. The first group includes swimwear and anything required by the facility’s rules. The second holds underwear and a comfortable outfit for leaving. The third contains identification, your reservation, glasses if needed and essential personal items.

A waterproof or washable bag keeps wet swimwear separate. Avoid leaving it sealed away for days: once you reach your accommodation, rinse it if appropriate and let it dry according to the care label. Keep your return outfit outside the bag containing damp items.

Dress for the journey as well as the pool

The least comfortable part of the day may be the walk from the exit to a car park or bus stop. Check the forecast close to departure and choose layers that work after you have changed. An extra light layer can be useful in air-conditioned spaces; in winter, give particular thought to the outdoor stretch.

For two nights, build your outfits around one pair of shoes suitable for your planned walks. Keep footwear for wet areas separate. If you are considering packing a special dinner outfit, establish whether a dress code actually applies before filling the bag with alternatives.

Make one final check

Keep your booking confirmation and arrival instructions available offline. Check your charger, admission time and any required documents. A reusable water bottle is useful where permitted, but check the facility’s rules about containers, food and drinks.

Finally, lift the bag and consider when you will use each item. If the answer depends on an activity you have not planned, you can probably leave it behind. The aim is not to travel with a perfect number of garments. It is to find what you need without carrying an entire second wardrobe.

TAKE THIS WITH YOU

Check what the facility provides first, and always keep a separate space for wet belongings.
