Leave early with your suitcase already ready

Prepare tonight what you do not want to search for in the morning.

Split the final evening in two

Before dinner, pack everything you will not use again: purchases, spare clothes and accessories that are already dry. Leave out a small group for the night and morning. This keeps final packing from coinciding with the time when you are most tired and simply want to sleep.

Check the departure route, transfer time and key-return instructions. Reception may not be staffed when you leave. If you need an early procedure, arrange it while you can still speak with the property and receive a clear answer rather than improvising outside a closed desk.

Create a small departure area

Place shoes, travel clothes and your day bag beside the suitcase. Keep documents and tickets where you will use them in transit. A short list of last items, such as a charger and toothbrush, lets you leave essentials out without relying entirely on your memory when newly awake.

If sharing the room, agree what each person still needs accessible. Do not seal something in shared luggage while another traveller still needs it. Allow time to move the bags to the exit, particularly when the route includes stairs or several doors.

Make one consistent room check

Before leaving, check the bathroom, wardrobe, sockets and bed area. Open drawers you have used and look behind the door where clothing may be hanging. Moving around the room in an orderly sequence is more reliable than a quick glance from its centre.

Finally, check that keys have been returned as agreed and keep the property’s contact until the journey ends. If you notice something missing after departure, you will have the correct contact ready.

TAKE THIS WITH YOU

Prepare almost everything in the evening and keep a short list for the final items.
