A travel towel: size, fabric and care
Choose a personal towel that fits your bag and feels pleasant to use.

Measure it open and folded
Before choosing a travel towel, consider two sizes: the one you use and the one you carry. Open it fully to see whether it covers the area you want, then fold it as you would pack it. A comfortable lounger-sized towel can fill most of a small backpack.
Do not compare only labels such as small and large. Measure the space available alongside your other belongings and consider where the towel will go after use. If you also intend to sit on it, check the setting’s rules: one surface is not necessarily appropriate for every purpose.
Try the fabric before departure
The feel of the fabric matters as much as its bulk. Use and wash the towel before travelling, following its care label. Notice how it absorbs, how heavy it becomes when damp and how it folds after washing. A home trial gives more useful information than a very brief sales description.
Check the edges, any hanging loops and fastening accessories too. A pouch may keep a dry towel tidy without being suitable for storing it wet. Choose its container around actual use and keep documents or clothing that must remain dry in a separate part of your bag.
Care and identification during the stay
After use, open the towel in a space provided by the property and follow the material’s drying instructions. Do not place it over lamps or electrical equipment. If the room has no suitable support, ask about an option rather than improvising on a delicate piece of furniture.
A recognisable colour or detail helps distinguish your towel from those of other guests. Before leaving, check the bathroom and any space used for drying. At home, treat the fabric according to its label before storing it for the next trip, rather than leaving it forgotten inside the wet bag.
Try the towel at home: dimensions, feel and management of moisture should work together.
